An 1856 Georgian-style homestead on Main Street, Yankalilla. We host every class here in the rustic Pavilion. Classes run 2.5 to 3 hours and include long-table lunch with two glasses of South Australian wine.

About the venue

An 1856 Georgian homestead in Yankalilla

Bungala House sits at 34 Main Street, Yankalilla. The Georgian-style sandstone homestead was built in 1856, with deep verandahs on three sides and a paddock that ends at the gum trees. The Gulf St Vincent is fifteen minutes the other way. We run two classes here, in two different spaces of the property, plus seasonal events and private group bookings.

The class always finishes with a long-table lunch and wine tasting at the homestead. Built in to the ticket, not an extra.

In the Pavilion: the Hibachi Steak Masterclass

The deep verandahs at Bungala House were made for what we do here. Each guest has their own small hibachi grill on the bench. The class uses premium South Australian beef from Thomas Farms and a native lineup of wattleseed, pepperberry, saltbush, lemon myrtle, emu pastrami and green ants. You make your own wattleseed pepperberry butter on the bench. The lunch that follows is paired with South Australian wine.

In the Pavilion: Sausage Making with Lunch

The Pavilion is the rustic outbuilding just off the homestead. Three hours of cuts, mincing, ratios, seasoning, mixing and filling. You taste a native flavour and pick one to season your own batch. Lunch is your sausages on the long table, paired with South Australian wine.

Finding Bungala House

Bungala House is at 34 Main Street, Yankalilla. From Adelaide allow about 1 hour 10 minutes via the South Eastern Freeway and the Main South Road.

Parking

On-site parking on the homestead drive. More room on the lawn for group events. Accessible parking close to the verandah is available on request.

At every Fleurieu Food and Wine class we bring a first aid kit, height-adjustable workstations and seated prep boards. We provide a water bowl and bedding for assistance dogs. Quiet space for sensory breaks can be organised. We can organise early arrival so you can settle in before the class starts.

Companion Cards are welcome at all classes at no charge for assist or observation only. If a meal is needed there is an additional charge, please contact us.

For guests who would like hearing or vision assistance, we have Nuance hearing glasses and Meta vision glasses available on the day, supplied through Health Partners Optical.

At Bungala House specifically: classes run in the rustic Pavilion and the gardens of an 1856 Georgian-style property. Accessible parking on site. A ramp gives clear access to the verandah and the Pavilion. Height-adjustable working spaces on the bench. There is no accessible toilet on site. The nearest accessible toilet is in the Yankalilla town centre, close by.

Is Bungala House wheelchair accessible?

Bungala House lists disabled access available. The grounds include garden paths and a pavilion with one step up. Depending on your specific mobility needs, some assistance may be required for the short walk and step into the pavilion. Please contact us before booking so we can discuss your requirements and the best way to support your visit.

Do all venues have heating and air conditioning?

All venues we work with have a combination of heating, cooling, or good ventilation to keep guests comfortable in most seasons. As some spaces are heritage or semi-open, we encourage guests to dress in layers suitable for South Australian coastal and wine region weather. If there are any specific notes about a venue, we include them in the event information.

Is shade or shelter available at the venues?

Yes. All class locations provide indoor or under cover spaces so the experience is not dependent on direct sun or rain. Where gardens and outdoor areas are used, we also have access to sheltered spaces for comfort and safety if the weather changes.
