An old butter factory by Lake Alexandrina
Our heritage venue at Milang on the shore of Lake Alexandrina. The butter factory has been carefully restored and hosts our pasta, mozzarella and dumpling classes. The 2026 calendar is being reworked.
A community-restored heritage venue
The Lakeside Butter Factory is a brick and timber building from the early 1900s that once supplied butter to the Adelaide market by lake steamer. It has been lovingly restored by a community group at Milang who let us run classes there several times a year. Brick walls, high windows, the old butter press still in the corner as part of the room. The lake is one minute’s walk away.
Milang is a quiet town on the shore of Lake Alexandrina. The drive from Adelaide is one of the prettiest in the state, through Strathalbyn and across the inland farmland to the lake.
What runs here
Pasta, mozzarella and dumpling classes run at the butter factory through the year. We are reworking the 2026 calendar to fit better with the rest of our schedule. The class types and the format are not changing. South Australian wine is paired with the meal.

FAQs about the Lakeside Butter Factory
Do all venues have heating and air conditioning?
All venues we work with have a combination of heating, cooling, or good ventilation to keep guests comfortable in most seasons. As some spaces are heritage or semi-open, we encourage guests to dress in layers suitable for South Australian coastal and wine region weather. If there are any specific notes about a venue, we include them in the event information.
Is shade or shelter available at the venues?
Yes. All class locations provide indoor or under cover spaces so the experience is not dependent on direct sun or rain. Where gardens and outdoor areas are used, we also have access to sheltered spaces for comfort and safety if the weather changes.
